Biomedical Engineering in Pakistan

This degree is one of the three university degrees of the Department. All students follow the same program for the first two years of study. The modules in this degree are designed to help you develop a thorough understanding of fundamental engineering principles, such as heat and mass transfer, mechanics, and electromagnetism. You will also gain specific expertise in how the human body works through topics such as medical science and molecules, cells, and processes. Read complete details of Biomedical Engineering in Pakistan here in this article.

The modules in this degree are designed to help you develop a thorough understanding of fundamental engineering principles, such as heat and mass transfer, mechanics, and electromagnetism. You will also gain specific expertise in how the human body works through topics such as medical science and molecules, cells, and processes.

It is this fusion of engineering knowledge and its practical application in healthcare that has led to advances in areas such as assistive medical technologies that help treat disabilities or illnesses.

In the second year, you will participate in a joint engineering design project with students from the Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering. This project aims to unleash their creativity to improve the sports and training equipment available to people with disabilities.

In the final year, you will choose from a variety of advanced modules, offered by departments of the College of Engineering, that are designed to integrate engineering principles with medical applications. You will also undertake a research project, part of which may be in partnership with another Imperial department or with hospitals associated with the Faculty of Medicine.

At the end of the second year, students achieving 2: 1 or better have the opportunity to enter the four-year MEng program, which allows the specialization in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

Purpose of Biomedical Engineering:

The biomedical engineer is responsible for the precise implementation of high-tech machinery and technology systems in hospitals in the manufacture and supply of medicines given the increase in pandemic diseases in the country. The Biomedical Engineer is an active member of the health sector without whom these fields are considered incomplete. When it comes to teaching biomedical engineering, this field is also an exciting field in the engineering profession.

It has been introduced as a collection of technical knowledge in medicine aimed at improving human biology and quality of life. This area combines two main fields: Medical and Engineering. A study of the principles and techniques of engineering for the improvement of medicine on precise development and use is described.

Biomedical Engineering Subjects:

Biomedical Engineering teaches subjects such as Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Communication, and Computer Engineering, Computer Integration, Manufacturing, Geographic Information Systems, Biotechnology, and Biomechanics. This unique department includes Biomaterial, Biomechanics, Medical Graphics, Genetic Engineering, Orthopedic Surgery, Cell, and Tissue Engineering.

A career in Biomedical Engineering

If you are going to start your career as a biomedical engineer after pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in biomedical engineering, get the precise performance of the high-tech machinery and systems used in medicine, the various devices, and their sensitive operation. And their protection is included in your duties.

All operational operating equipment – computed tomography – ultrasound – X-ray machine and other automated machines must be operated and controlled to provide medical solutions, especially to the doctor and the patient. Better and efficient machines and tools are being developed for better diagnosis, surgery, and devices for the welfare of mankind.

Not only that, but biomedical engineers also work on making artificial organs like robotic hands, robotic fingers, and other artificial limbs for those who lose their organs in an accident or illness.

What do biomedical engineers do?

Biomedical Engineers:

  • Design and build machinery used in hospitals and laboratories.
  • Develop machines and devices to examine people’s health.
  • Develop devices and sensors to measure blood chemistry, such as iron, hemoglobin, sugar, and sodium.
  • Design and develop artificial organs, for example, pacemakers, artificial legs, robotic hands, etc.
  • Work on stem cell engineering and 3D printing of biological organs.
  • Design instruments and devices for therapeutic uses, for example, the device for eye surgery.

Scope of Biomedical Engineering in Pakistan:

The scope of biomedical engineering is limited in Pakistan. The number of job opportunities is less. But with the advancements in the profession in Pakistan and the new hospitals and diagnostic laboratories being built in every city in Pakistan, the demand for innovative tools, technology, and machinery is increasing day by day, which will increase the opportunities for engineers. biomedical.
